Kalwant Kaur

SUICIDE

Kalwant experienced 3 suicides within her family and spent years dealing with the guilt and the blame that was associated with the not knowing why the individuals did what they did. She supported her family without realising the impact it was having on her own health and wellbeing. Gurmat Therapy helped her unpick the guilt, to see the situation from an objective perspective and begin the healing process. She is now able to talk openly about what happened and has learned to cope with the emotions associated with such a traumatic event. Most importantly she has learned to disassociate from the guilt and blame game which destroys one's physical and emotional health. Sadly suicide carries much stigma and isn't talked about openly. She is an advocate for bringing it into the open so that individuals and families do not have to cope alone.

BODY IMAGE

Kalwant spent her childhood and teenage years overweight without knowing why. It transpired that she had a medical condition which caused excessive weight gain and a whole host of other associated problems. She spent years battling the excess weight without knowing what she was battling. Once she knew, she was able to deal with the weight gain and associated symptoms. However, whilst the physical appearance was dealt with, the mental and emotional impact was still very much there. Gurmat Therapy helped her to unpick the harsh effects the weight gain had had on her mental and emotional health. Having children took her body and image on a whole new adventure and brought its own challenges. She is now in a place of acceptance of her health and has developed coping strategies to deal with the tough times as hormones change and symptoms re-surface, bringing with them insecurities and resistance to change. Social media continues to bombard society with images of the ideal figure for both men and women. These play on people's fears and give them unrealistic expectations. Kalwant works with individuals to help them heal the scars of living in a body that wasn't in their control and feel some sense of control over their body now with an attitude of acceptance.
