How letting go and acceptance can help heal trauma

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Letting go is about releasing the emotional and psychological attachments that we have to our past experiences. When we hold onto the past, we keep ourselves stuck in a cycle of pain and suffering. Letting go can be challenging, but it is an essential step in the healing process. It involves acknowledging and accepting what has happened to us, and then making a conscious choice to release the emotional hold that these experiences have on us.

Acceptance is another important aspect of healing from trauma. Acceptance involves acknowledging and embracing all aspects of our experiences, including the difficult and painful ones. It is not about denying or minimising the impact of trauma, but rather about finding a way to live with it in a way that is healthy and productive. Acceptance is about moving from a place of resistance and struggle, to a place of peace and surrender.

Letting go and acceptance can help us to heal from trauma in a number of ways. Firstly, it can help to reduce the intensity and frequency of the symptoms of trauma. When we are able to release the emotional hold that trauma has on us, we can reduce the intensity of our emotional and physical reactions to triggers.

Secondly, letting go and acceptance can help us to develop a greater sense of resilience and self-compassion. When we are able to accept and embrace all aspects of our experiences, we develop a greater sense of self-love and compassion. This can help us to feel more empowered and capable of dealing with the challenges that come our way.

Finally, letting go and acceptance can help us to cultivate a sense of inner peace and well-being. When we are able to release the grip that trauma has on our lives, we can experience a greater sense of freedom and joy. We can learn to live in the present moment, and to appreciate all of the beauty and wonder that life has to offer.

By embracing these powerful practices of right-mindfulness and self-compassion, we can learn to live a life that is filled with joy, love, and compassion.
